This question was raised during the lecture today and the answer was: to create a reflective piece of writing. I believe it is important to reflect on things whether it be a teacher reflecting on their class plan for the day, or a student reflecting on their day at school but I do not understand why it has to be done via the internet. With the internet there is always a sense of someone 'looking over your shoulder' watching everything you type. If you hand write your personal reflections I honest think that they would be deeper and have more relevant content because people aren't 'scared' that their feelings will be revealed. It comes down to a privacy issue, people are more confident when they feel secure. During a break I had after the lecture this topic was discussed and all 3 of us agreed that blogging on the internet isn't the best way to write a reflection. I do understand the use of blogging in this particular unit as the unit is meant to encourage the use of technology and give examples of how it can be used in the classroom, but I will not be using blogging within my classroom as a means of writing reflectively. This is not to say that I won't allow my students to blog or communicate via the internet as I am keen to use emailing (for example) as a pen-pal style activity.
